If I have large hands, I need a large slingshot frame?

Do large hands require big slingshots? And if I have small hands, do I need to have a small slingshot frame?

The answer is to use whichever slingshot frame works best for you. Some people have very large hands and shoot very small frames very effectively.

Some people with small hands appreciate a large frame, and shoot it very well. It’s a common refrain here.

What is best for you is what matters most. There’s no hard and fast rule on what size slingshot frame you need.

Why do my slingshot bands hit my middle finger?

We’re going to have to make some assumptions on this question. We are going to assume that you are talking about your frame holding hand, which is being smacked by your bands.

You are not alone. This is called hand slap or band slap, and it is absolutely no fun. Especially as the weather gets colder, it can be downright unbearable.

The great news is that it is completely avoidable. We preach matching bands, two ammo a lot around here, and avoiding hand slap is one of the reasons to do so. Mind you, there are other even more important reasons, but hand slap is no fun and that is the question here.

Hand slap usually occurs when shooting over the top when your ammo is too light or your bands are too strong. The leftover energy in the bands causes them to retract for the second time and then they come crashing back into your frame hand. Ouch.

You have a few options. First, hand slap is much less likely when shooting through the forks. If you shoot through the forks, band slap will almost entirely go away.

Second, make sure that your bands are matched to your ammo. Try shooting a heavier ammo or lighten up your bands so they match and there won’t be that leftover energy in the band.

Are there any similarities between shooting a bow and shooting a slingshot?

Oh yeah! There are a LOT of similarities, and we love them.

See, shooting a bow is GREAT for slingshot shooters and shooting a slingshot is GREAT for archers!

Both disciplines require muscle training (especially those stabilizing muscles). But while shooting a bow requires frequent trips down range to retrieve arrows and a full-weight draw, slingshot shooters can reel off several hundred shots (with a lighter draw and no need to retrieve shots).

Why would you not carry the fastest latex for slingshots?

Why not just sell the slingshots with the bandsets already installed on the slingshot frame?

It is actually very important that we do not install the band sets on your slingshot when you buy it from SimpleShot.

In this video we will go over those reasons and we think you will agree that it is best that we send you your frames separate from your band sets.

The number one reason is that one size does not fit all.

Everyone who orders a slingshot from us is a slightly different size. Everyone has a slightly different drawl length. So there is no way we could install bands in a manner that the slingshot would fit everyone.

 Slingshot band sets must be tuned to the draw length of the sling shot shooter. And the shooter of the slingshot is the one who needs to do the tuning. We could get an average length that would suit most slingshot shooters, but those with very long draws would not be able to use the bands!

And the second reason is that we want your band sets to be as fresh as possible when you receive them. To accomplish this, we seal up all the band sets we sell in a UV protected, sealed bag.

So to summarize, we do not pre-install band sets on our slingshots because they would not be tuned to you, and because we want your bands to be as fresh and zippy as possible.

Folks who insist on shooting the heaviest bands possible while learning generally have more issues with fork hits.  This is due to the fact that the resistance of the bands is so great that the pouch and projectile is snatched from the fingers without allowing the user to see and feel if the pouch tension is uneven combined with not keeping the frame properly aligned during release.  This is one of the reasons we recommend that folks learn their shooting technique using lighter weight bands.

Muscle memory that reinforces bad habits is tough to correct down the road.
