Here’s another one that is very important.

We’ve said many times how important turning your bands is.

If you do not properly tune your bands, you will experience poor performance. So it is essential that you know how to measure your draw length, choose your active band length, and then correctly trim your bands.

In this video we will address an error that we see commonly.

When trimming your bands, you must consider only the part of the band that is active. If you’re active band length is 6 inches, you must leave extra band for the tie-in, and you must not count the pouch as part of that active band length.

Next up. TTF.

TTF simply means through the forks.

This style of banding means that your ammo will actually fly through the forks when you shoot it. This type of banding allows a thicker aiming reference when aiming down the band.

While some people definitely preferred this style of banding for aiming, there are people who shoot just as accurately over-the-top. Again, there is no right or wrong way to band your slingshot if you are considering over-the-top or through the forks.

One thing to consider is that this style of banding will increase your likelihood of fork hits. Since you’re projectile is actually traveling through the forks, it does come much closer to the forks then when you are shooting over-the-top.

We generally recommend that beginners start out shooting over-the-top and not through the forks until your skill is developed.

Even though this style of banding cannot be done to a natural fork slingshot without some modification, this style of banding has been around a long time.

The original Whammo sling shot, for example, shot through the forks. This is a great way to band your slingshot.

So what does OTT mean?

Over the top.

And in the world of slingshots, that means how your slingshot is banded. Over-the-top simply means that your bands come up over the top of the slingshot frame.

There’s not much else to it.

Almost all natural fork slingshots must be banded over-the-top.There’s no right or wrong way to band a slingshot.Over-the-top is a style that many great shooters love.

Here’s a question a lot of people have.Which is better over-the-top or through the forks?

The answer? Yes. 🙂

There is positively no right way to band up your slingshot.There are people who shoot over the top and there are people who shoot through the forks with incredible accuracy.

The trick to this question is like most things in slingshots.You just have to try it out and see which one you like best.

When you try bending over the top as well as through the forks you will find that each has its own unique advantages. You may find that one has disadvantages for you. When you find that to be the case, just shoot the one that works best for you and stick with it.

If you want to master both styles, fine. But there’s no need.Use the one that’s best for you.

In this video, we get into a little more detail about exactly how long to trim your bands.

Once you have figured out your draw length and know your active band length, you then need to trim your bands to the appropriate length.

In this video we go over exactly what is needed to make sure your bands are the perfect length. Demonstrated using FlipClips, this video goes over the extra length needed on your band set to accommodate tie-ins or band attachments.

Make sure you always know exactly how much band will be used for your band attachment before you trim your bands! You can always return them to be shorter but once you’ve trimmed them there’s no going back.
