Here’s another one that is very important.

We’ve said many times how important turning your bands is.

If you do not properly tune your bands, you will experience poor performance. So it is essential that you know how to measure your draw length, choose your active band length, and then correctly trim your bands.

In this video we will address an error that we see commonly.

When trimming your bands, you must consider only the part of the band that is active. If you’re active band length is 6 inches, you must leave extra band for the tie-in, and you must not count the pouch as part of that active band length.

Once you have figured out your draw length and know your active band length, you then need to trim your bands to the appropriate length.

In this video we go over exactly what is needed to make sure your bands are the perfect length. Demonstrated using FlipClips, this video goes over the extra length needed on your band set to accommodate tie-ins or band attachments.

Make sure you always know exactly how much band will be used for your band attachment before you trim your bands! You can always return them to be shorter but once you’ve trimmed them there’s no going back.

SimpleShot Pro Tip. Draw Length

This is an extremely important topic.If you don’t know your draw length, you will never be able to properly tune your bands.

If you never properly tune your bands, you will never get the performance that you’re looking for out of your slingshot.

If you have any question at all about determining your draw length and what that means for your slingshot performance, start here. Take about a minute and a half and make sure you’re measuring your draw length correctly.

Is Theraband Black the same as SImpleShot Black?

The answer is definitely no.

Theraband black is about half the thickness of SimpleShot black. If you shot the same cut of both bands, you’d see a huge difference.

So don’t make the mistake of thinking they are the same. Both are great products, but they are very different!

Band elongation is one of the most critical yet misunderstood factors of slingshot performance.

If you are not elongating your bands to the correct factor during the shot, you’ll have one of two problems.

1. Too much power for your ammo (your ammo cannot absorb that much energy)
2. Too little power and a totally underwhelming experience (you’re leaving energy behind in your bands).

You’ll be surprised how much power and accuracy you can get from a simple single bandset once it’s elongated properly.

The Speed Bump. It’s all gotten us at one time or another.

Are you experiencing fork hits or errant shots sometimes while you feel as though everything is correct in your shot? You might be plagued with the speed bump!

This nasty little guy shows up when you squeeze the ammo instead of pinching the sides of it. The ammo pops up over the forefinger instead of cleanly headed toward the target. The result? You guessed it. Fork hits, lousy shots, inconsistency…

All that stuff we don’t want.

So keep an eye on this one. Develop your pinch strength with lighter bands and practice ammo until you can move up to heavier bands and ammo.

Looking for accuracy? Of course. Isn’t every slingshot shooter looking for more accuracy?

This Pro Tip is a simple one, but can be overlooked, causing frustration and random shooting.

Keep a careful eye on your stance, particularly when practicing, and see if your accuracy doesn’t improve. We recommend a 90-degrees-to-your-target stance. Some people are very successful with other degrees, but we suggest starting with the standard 90 degree stance.

Lock in on this. Master shooting at 90 degrees and your mechanics will be so consistent (one of the major keys to accuracy) that you’ll not have any problem during those times (say, hunting, for example) when you simply cannot square up on your target.
